League Two Harrogate Town’s next THREE fixtures postponed due to positive Covid-19 cases in early season chaos

HARROGATE TOWN has had its next three fixtures delayed due to a Covid outbreak within their squad.

After just one League Two match, the Yorkshire side's EFL campaign was thrown into chaos. They may even have to lose their place in Carabao Cup.

Harrogate Town's next three fixtures were postponed

The first victim is Town's League Cup tie at Rochdale on Monday night.

Their League Two trips to Crawley, Leyton Orient and Leyton Orient on August 14-17 will need to be rearranged.

According to the EFL, Harrogate Town's next three fixtures won't take place as planned due to positive Covid-19 cases within the club's squad.

It means that a large number of people are unable or unwilling to train or play because of a positive test result or the need to self-isolate according to Government and EFL guidance.

"After discussions with Harrogate, the league agreed to Harrogate’s request to rearrange league fixtures with all parties now to jointly find alternate dates. These will be confirmed in due course.

"The league will review any suggestion made by the club regarding rescheduling Carabao Cup.

"The rules state that a fixture cannot be rearranged before the next round. A club would then have to forfeit the tie."

Town defeated Rochdale 3-2 at their home in League Two's opener thanks to Warren Burrell’s 91-minute winner.

Simon Weaver, Harrogate's boss, said that the disruption to their season was a'real shame.

He stated that the main concern was the well-being of our staff and players. Although we are disappointed, this is beyond our control.

"We just came off the backs of a great last-minute win and all that momentum, so it's a real tragedy.

"The Carabao Cup represents an important competition.

"As we demonstrated last year, you are just one win away of a possible televised fixture against an opponent in the Premier League at this stage.

"The team will be having a Zoom call with Darren Simpson, a fitness coach. Home training programs are available for those who need it.

"We have already proven that we can do this during lockdown, so we will need to do it again in the next ten day."
