As debris is thrown into the air, spectators are forced to flee for cover.

Verstappen (23 years old) was involved in a high-speed collision with Lewis Hamilton at Silverstone’s Copse Corner.

F1 officials issued the red flag shortly after the incident to stop the race.

It was difficult to understand the impact of the crash because professional cameras were not nearby.

Amateur footage taken by Daily Mail shows crowd screaming in anger as Verstappen's Red Bull approaches at high speed.

Fans can be placed within a few yards of the fence. The fence is well protected by the tyre walls.

As large quantities of debris are hurled at them, supporters can be seen bracing themselves for impact.

After the incident, one fan asked a child if they were OK.

After the accident, Verstappen was taken to hospital. However, he was not seriously injured.

LEWIS TO BLAME - ECCLESTONE

Hamilton, 36, was cited for the crash. However, he managed to win the race with a 10-second penalty from race stewards.

Bernie Ecclestone, former chief executive of F1 believes Hamilton was responsible for the incident.

According to the Daily Mail, the 90-year old said: "Who was to be blamed?" Lewis is the only one to blame.

"In the past, we would have said that it was one of those incidents, a racing incident. Everyone was trying his best to win this championship.

"But, if the stewards had to intervene then they should have given Lewis a longer penalty than a 10-second one. It should have taken 30 seconds.

"Lewis wasn't in front when they collided. He wasn't in the corner. He was only a car length behind. He hit him in the back, not at the front.

"Ten seconds was too short. The crime was not punished with the punishment.

"If you must give a sanction which they in some ways didn't have to, this wasn't the right decision. It wasn't enough."

According to Ben Hunt, SunSport's motorsport correspondent Ben Hunt, these are the ten most successful F1 drivers.

Jos Verstappen's father has also criticised Hamilton. He told Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf that Hamilton's actions were "not acceptable."

"I find a 10-second penalty ridiculous. They should have disqualified him.

Max gives Max space and is right in front of Max. The inside can't be overtaken."
